Renowned South African composer Lebo M has thrown his weight behind ActionSA ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for 4 November 2026. Filming from backstage at a show in Singapore, he delivered a raw and impassioned message to camera, urging South Africans to vote for the party led by Herman Mashaba.

In the selfie-style video, Lebo M said his time travelling the world and observing Singapore's development had made him reflect on the state of his homeland.

"I realise my country of birth, my home, was in trouble," he said, speaking directly to the camera in an urgent tone.

He expressed regret at not being physically present in South Africa to campaign, stating that he would have been "in every street corner, every home" to rally support for the party.

The Lion King composer also called on ActionSA and the ATM party to find common ground, saying he hoped the two could "bridge the gap and release us from these treacherous last 32 years that have destroyed our country." He added that he had given over two decades of his vote to parties that, in his view, had failed the nation.

"I'm scared that it's done," he said.

Accompanying the post, Lebo M wrote:

"Wish I was home 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦 to help bring back hope and lobby hard for @Action4SA, who has earned my vote and support. Time for change @HermanMashaba, make this happen, sir 🇿🇦💯🙏🏾"

The video drew a wide range of responses, with some fans applauding the composer's boldness and others pushing back sharply.

@Ronny_835 was supportive:

"Thank you, sir Lebo M. You are the second celebrity or well-known person in South Africa after the late rapper AKA, who had a voice for South Africans. Most celebrities in SA don't care, and they will never defend this country and its people for fear of losing gigs in African countries."

@chris_kama7 offered practical advice:

"Put resources into a few wards for campaigning; surely you have people in a few wards back home who can mobilise with your resources.... That's the best you can do🤝🏽"

@Gabellah was dismissive:

"Give it a rest, Mr. ANC helped build you. Governing is not easy. But Mashaba is no answer; you will learn soon enough, though."

@mingasPC raised an eyebrow at the immigration angle:

"The irony of you campaigning on immigration policy when your own marriage history kept Home Affairs busy for a decade. Let's not pretend local government elections deal with national immigration issues."

@DlubuladledleN questioned his track record:

"Have you ever been on a street to campaign for whoever, or do you only do it through social media?"

@Sharmz1212 brought up an unrelated grievance:
