Lebo M Loses Mercedes-Benz A 200 After Joburg High Court Grants Repossession Order

Lion King producer Lebohang "Lebo M" Morake is facing the loss of his Mercedes-Benz A 200 after the Johannesburg High Court sided with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, authorising the vehicle's repossession. The ruling, handed down on 14 August 2026, also cancelled the instalment sale agreement between the two parties.
As part of the order, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services has been given the green light to activate the car's built-in tracking device to pinpoint its location. If Morake, who reportedly refused to hand over the vehicle in 2024, does not surrender the vehicle voluntarily, the Sheriff of the High Court or a deputy has the authority to physically locate, attach and remove it from wherever it may be found.
Why Mercedes-Benz took Lebo M to court
Court documents reveal that Morake signed the instalment sale agreement with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in Sandton on 6 March 2020. The total purchase price, inclusive of finance charges, came to R785,423.45, with monthly instalments exceeding R8,000.

According to the financial services company, it held up its end of the deal by delivering the vehicle. However, Morake allegedly stopped meeting his payment obligations. By 5 March 2026, his account had accumulated arrears of more than R19,700.
Mercedes-Benz Financial Services says it sent several notices urging Morake to settle the outstanding balance, but received no response. With the debt unresolved, the company eventually cancelled the agreement and turned to the courts, represented by Strauss Daly Attorneys.
Because ownership of the vehicle technically remained with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services after the agreement was cancelled, the company had legal standing to demand the car back. Morake did not oppose the application, and the High Court consequently granted judgment in the company's favour without a contested hearing.
Lebo M is best known internationally for his work on the soundtrack of Disney's The Lion King and its 2019 remake. He made headlines earlier this year after paying lobola for his fifth wife, Nomoya Dube.

Lebo M hit with hefty legal bill after losing to Zimbabwean comedian
The Mercedes-Benz dispute comes as Lebo M faces another legal setback in the United States.
Briefly News previously reported that a US federal court ordered Lebo M to pay for Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi's legal bill.
The court ruled against Lebo M after he sued Jonasi over a joke about the Lion King opening chant.
