Wicknell Chivayo and Lucy Muteke's tragic deaths
Chivayo and Muteke lost their lives on Wednesday, 30 September, after the helicopter they were travelling in came down at Kudenga Farm in the Marondera Rural area of Zimbabwe. The couple had been on their way home when the aircraft crashed, killing everyone on board, including two pilots and a security aide.
A funeral service was held on 7 October, conducted by Vapostori clergy. Chivayo's coffin was draped in the Zimbabwean flag after President Emmerson Mnangagwa granted him Provincial Hero status.
The couple are set to be buried side by side at the granite-clad Royal Graves at Sahwira Glenforest Memorial Park in Harare on 8 October. Photos of their alleged gravesites were leaked online ahead of the burial, drawing significant public attention.
Tributes poured in from across the African continent and beyond following news of their passing, with many honouring Chivayo's legacy as a high-profile businessman and philanthropist known for his headline-grabbing acts of generosity.
