No one in South Africa was prepared for the day Americans learned about the crime and corruption happening in the country, let alone the Thabo Bester story.

Famously dubbed the Facebook Rapist, Bester's story is riddled with twisted tales of murder, fraud and a complex love story.

Following the release of the latest documentary about the criminal's devious scandals, Beauty and the Bester has had social media buzzing for days on end as South Africans analysed Bester's criminal history and his girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana's willing involvement.

Sitting in the top 10 of Netflix's most-watched shows, the documentary quickly caught the attention of people outside of South Africa.

Reacting to the doccie, several American content creators were shocked beyond words by Bester's tale, with one sois.reine claiming that the documentary "disturbed her soul," and South Africans had a field day in the comments sections.
