South Africa's most recognisable investigative TV journalist is closing a significant chapter in her career. Devi Sankaree Govender has announced that The Devi Show is coming to an end on e.tv, with this Sunday's broadcast set to be the programme's final episode after six years on air.
Govender built her public profile through years of fearless journalism on M-Net's Carte Blanche, where she became widely known for confronting wrongdoers and pursuing accountability on behalf of South African viewers. She carried that same spirit into The Devi Show when it launched on e.tv in 2020 as a free-to-air platform.
Over its 24 seasons, the programme blended consumer advocacy with investigative journalism, targeting scammers, alleged corrupt officials, dodgy estate agents, unreliable repair shops, disbarred lawyers reportedly collecting upfront fees, and funeral parlours accused of mistreating grieving families. Govender's signature style of patient, persistent questioning combined with her well-known sense of humour made the show a familiar and trusted fixture on South African screens. The programme and its presenter picked up multiple prestigious industry awards over the years.
Why Devi Govender is ending The Devi Show
In a video shared on Instagram, Govender explained that her decision to end the show comes down to where audiences are now spending their time. She held up a television remote in one hand and a smartphone in the other to make her point.

"After 6 years of chasing skelms on the streets of South Africa, mission accomplished," she said in the clip.
"It's time now for us to move off linear television. Why? Because you're not here [she holds up a TV remote control], you are here [she holds up a smartphone]. And therefore I need to be here with you, too," she said.
She also addressed questions about what comes next with characteristic candour:
"Asking questions - tough ones - are always going to be in my DNA. And we may be switching off the studio lights; things are certainly going to get hot. Join me on my journey."
Even after the show ends, past episodes will not disappear. Govender confirmed that all seasons will be available on YouTube via both e.tv's channel and her own personal channel, giving audiences ongoing access to the programme's full archive of investigations.

Her message makes it clear this is a platform shift, not a retirement, with further details about her next chapter expected to follow.
