Adelina Mbinjama

Education: Adelina holds a PhD in Media Studies from NMMU (2014), an MA (2009), and a BA in Media Communication and Culture (2007). Her doctoral research explored cyber-ethics in NGO social media. She also holds a Teaching Development Certificate from CPUT.
Experience: Adelina, Media Communications Lecturer at CPUT since 2018 (permanent from 2020), previously lectured at NMU and UCT. She has radio, consulting, and PR experience, with expertise in teaching, research, curriculum, and media practice.
Awards: Adelina has earned NRF Thuthuka and CPUT grants, mentored in CPUT’s Sisonke Programme, completed teaching development, and won regional awards for service and business excellence, with recognition in academia and leadership.
Adelina is a Media and Communication Lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town, where she has worked since 2018 and was appointed permanently in 2020. Her research interests include Digital Media and Cyber-Ethics, Black Feminism, Cultural Studies, and Communication. She focuses on the representation of women in various media, with much of her work examining digital media use and cyber-ethics among black youth, women, NGOs, and black-owned businesses. She plans to further explore AI and cyber-ethics.
