A Shell Flamingo petrol attendant, Tebogo Mokoena, became R800 richer when a kind-hearted motorist, Rob Retief, gave him a big fat tip after he had received assistance. The interaction between the two men moved many people online.
Rob, seated in his Suzuki vehicle, shared the clip on his TikTok account on 26 March 2026, showing how he asked Tebogo to choose a number between one and 1 000 while holding a stack of cash. At first, not knowing why he had to choose, Tebogo said 'two,' prompting Rob to ask if he was sure about his decision and giving him another chance. This time, Tebogo said '800' and received eight R100 notes.

Good Samaritan explains his actions
While speaking to Briefly News, Rob stated that he had shared the video as he wanted to show that kindness matters in every interaction.
"Too often, people carry their own burdens into situations and pass that frustration onto others. I used to be one of those people myself. This moment was about showing that we don’t always have to be like that."
When asked what inspired him to gift the cash to Tebogo, Rob told the publication that while on his way to the garage, he realised that he often carries unnecessary emotions from prior interactions and adds them to the next one.
"For staff working in service, they sometimes expect negativity before a customer even speaks, which makes the interaction harder for both sides. That inspired me to flip the script and show that we can choose kindness instead, and that a small act of generosity can change the tone completely."
