The video of the Muslim kid in KZN garnered attention on social media as many were curious about Zulu Muslim converts. Many people were raving about the video showing the extent of diversity in South Africa.

In a post on TikTok by @zulhija_milanzi a young boy is reciting one of the Muslim prayers. He was reciting it and leading other congregants who joined him in the prayer known as Taraweeh. It is a nightly prayer which translates to rest and relaxation, and it is typically performed in congregation, just as the boy was. The clip showed the gathering of Muslim people of Zulu descent. Zulu Muslim community fascinates TikTok

People were amazed to see a Zulu person who recognised Muslim rites. Many people were also raving about the boy who was practising his faith. South Africa is a majority Christian country, while Islam is a minority religion with only 2% of the population identifying as Muslim. The disparity results in stigma against Zulu Muslims as they are often accused of abandoning their heritage, according to Theological Studies. Scholars recognised that Zulu Muslims have their own interpretation of the religion, which includes Zulu cultural elements. Zulu Muslims in South Africa are usually the result of voluntary conversion through outreach efforts. In the 80s, there was a wave of Zulu converts in the township who embraced the religion. They have created a hybrid cultural balancing of Islamic principles and Zulu identity. Rather than abandoning their roots, many converts find a way to honour both their heritage and their religion, contributing to the vibrant diversity that continues to amaze and inspire South Africans on social platforms like TikTok.
