A Black American woman moved thousands of people online after sharing a raw, tearful moment filmed outside the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 28 September 2026.

In the selfie-style video posted by @iloveafrica_media on Instagram, the woman spoke openly about why she was crying. She said the emotion caught her off guard as she stood in front of the AU building and began thinking about history. She said:

"Our ancestors never had the chance to come back to the motherland. And to just be here in front of the AU as an African-American — Marcus Garvey never made it back. And I'm here as a testimony of all of our ancestors' work, no matter what. So I'm humbled. I'm humbled by it all."

She referenced Marcus Garvey, the Jamaican-born Pan-Africanist whose lifelong advocacy for African unity and a return to the continent became a defining chapter in diaspora history. Garvey died in 1940 without ever setting foot in Africa, and his name carried visible weight in the woman's emotional state.
