Michael is a South African gardener who refused to let a lack of resources stop him from building something of his own. Rather than waiting until he could afford a truck, he converted his bicycle into a fully functional, three-wheeled mobile gardening station, complete with a rear storage compartment packed with everything he needs to get the job done.

The story came to light on 28 October 2026, when Cape Town-based Instagram user @tyronerothwell shared a video of Michael in action. Footage showed him pedalling his custom ride through the streets before arriving at a residential property, where he got straight to work trimming lawns and tidying up the garden.

Pedalling his way to success

What makes Michael's story stand out is the ingenuity behind it. His bicycle does the job that most in his trade would assign to a bakkie or trailer. He offers a range of services, from lawn cutting and hedge trimming to planting and general garden maintenance, all at an affordable rate.

The caption on the post summed it up simply:

"He's already pedalling his way there."

Starting a lawn-care business in South Africa is considered a relatively low-barrier venture, but even the basics, including equipment and transport, can be a hurdle for many. Michael found a way around that, and his approach resonated with thousands of people who saw themselves in his hustle.
