A video celebrating the life of Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, a 38-year-old runner from Kempton Park, has left South Africans heartbroken after her murder was confirmed last week.

On 9 September 2026, Elizabeth left her home for a routine afternoon jog. Her 8-year-old daughter, left behind, raised the alarm when her mother did not return. Family members launched a search and alerted authorities. Three days later, a badly beaten woman's body was found in Rhodesfield. On 14 September, her family made the devastating journey to the Germiston Mortuary and positively identified her remains.

Fitness enthusiast and mother @selloaneitumeleng shared a tribute video on Threads on 15 September, set to the words:

"For you. For her. For us."

The clip showed Elizabeth at various races, smiling, greeting fellow runners, and embracing every moment of the sport she loved. Selloane speaks over the footage, asking:

"How many more women are we supposed to lose before we say enough is enough?"

8 women murdered on the East Rand

Elizabeth's death is part of a deeply disturbing pattern that has gripped Gauteng's East Rand. Since July 2026, eight women have been found murdered across Kempton Park, Rhodesfield, Olifantsfontein, and KwaThema in Springs. The victims were found in similar circumstances — naked or partially clothed, showing signs of severe trauma and sexual assault — in bushy terrain or near water.

SAPS launched a dedicated multidisciplinary task team and has brought in the Investigative Psychology Section to build a profile of the perpetrator. One suspect is in custody in connection with the first victim found in July, though investigations into the remaining seven cases continue. A R400,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia called the discoveries "deeply disturbing."
