A fundraising drive for the family of Kempton Park runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo crossed five figures within a single day of going live, as South Africans rallied behind those she left behind.
Moselakgomo, 38, was found dead on 9 September 2026 after going missing during a run in Kempton Park. Her passing left behind a daughter and grieving family now facing the weight of loss without her.
Campaign raises R30,700 in a day
An authorised BackaBuddy campaign, titled Together for Elizabeth 'Tsontso' Moselakgomo, was set up with a target of R50,000. Within 24 hours of launching, it had already pulled in R30,700, reflecting an outpouring of public support for the family.

As of the time of publishing, the total had climbed well past the initial target, raising over R89,000. It reached 178% of its goal.
The funds are intended to help Moselakgomo's daughter and loved ones get through the difficult weeks ahead. Organisers confirmed they would be making direct contact with the family to ensure the money reaches them.

Donors share messages of grief and hope
South Africans shared messages as they donated.
Anonymous wrote:
"The world feels so unjust 💔. Rest in peace, Tsontso — I pray that your daughter will land in the hands of people who love her wholeheartedly." (R1,000)
Nonto donated R200, adding simply:
"I have an 8-year-old daughter."
Another anonymous donor who gave R1,000 wrote:
"This world is so cruel!!! I hope her family can find some peace eventually and strength to endure this tragedy 💜💜💜"
