A Johannesburg business owner posted a raw, emotional video on 27 September 2026 demanding the reinstatement of the death penalty after a devastating week of mass shootings left 28 people dead across South Africa.
Robert Delport Krisch, owner of B and N Metalworks and founder of Punisher Slapfight, filmed himself at home with an SABC News broadcast playing behind him after a mass shooting claimed 17 lives.
"In one week we've had 28 people mass murdered and all these clowns can say we will follow you till in the sea," he said, visibly frustrated. "When are the people of South Africa going to wake up and smell the coffee? Bring back the death penalty."
Krisch then made his message deeply personal. He revealed that his own mother was murdered in 2005.

"I know the pain it is to lose a relative that was murdered," he said. "So I can imagine what these poor people are going through and all our government can do is talk, talk, talk."
28 dead in three separate massacres
The three shootings that sparked his outrage took place across three provinces. On Tuesday, 22 September, gunmen attacked a house party in KwaMakhutha, Umlazi, near Durban, killing 11 people, including a pregnant woman.
Then on Saturday, 26 September, eight armed men stormed Dora's Tavern in Wedela Township, Carletonville, shooting indiscriminately and setting two vehicles alight, leaving 17 dead and 15 injured.
Hours later, in the early morning of 27 September, gunmen opened fire on patrons at a shisanyama in Lwandle Township, Strand, near Cape Town, killing 10 people and injuring 11. The South African Police Service has deployed specialist detective teams across all three provinces but had made no arrests at the time the video was posted.
These incidents pushed the total number of people killed in South African mass shootings to at least 196 since January 2026, according to available tallies.
Krisch also called on voters to think carefully at the next election.
"November, when you vote, think. Think for your kids, think for your future, think for your safety."
