"This is the 10th woman in two months," she said in the video. "Ten women later, there is only one suspect in custody. This person has been in custody since the first woman was found. So make that make sense."

A region under heavy police presence

Since July 2026, bodies of young women have been recovered across multiple locations in the Ekurhuleni region, including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Clayville, Dawn Park and KwaThema. Victims identified so far include 38-year-old runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, Gracious Nkomo, Itumeleng Kekana and Dineo Evelyn Motapane. Many of the women were found half-naked, decomposing, or with signs of extreme violence.

The South African Police Service deployed a multidisciplinary specialist task team and introduced roadblocks and checkpoints across the area. Kempton Park and surrounding eastern suburbs were placed under strict security measures. Despite this, authorities have not yet confirmed whether the killings are the work of one person or several, and three men appeared in court in connection with one of the earlier cases.

Authorities urge women to take precautions

With no definitive conclusion from investigators, women in the area have been told to travel in groups, keep their location shared with someone they trust, complete errands during daylight hours, and avoid open fields and isolated roadsides. Authorities also confirmed there is no waiting period to report a missing woman — anyone can be reported missing immediately.
