LIMPOPO — One person was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles at Ga-Chuene, outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo today.

Emergency services were swiftly dispatched to the scene and are currently attending to the situation.

According to SABC News, the collision involved a light bakkie and a security company minibus.

Motorists warned of traffic disruptions

The accident has resulted in significant traffic disruptions in the area. One lane on the route from Lebowakgomo to Polokwane has been closed, while traffic from Polokwane to Lebowakgomo is being managed through a single open lane.

Motorists travelling along the R37 are urged to exercise caution, expect delays, and consider alternative routes where possible. Authorities have also advised road users to plan their trips accordingly as emergency teams continue their operations on-site.

The Department has appealed to drivers to remain patient and cooperative to ensure the safety of both emergency personnel and fellow road users.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were urgently dispatched on the scene to attend to the incident, while traffic officials worked to manage congestion in the area. Reporters on the ground said the crash involved a collision between two vehicles. Preliminary investigations indicate that, in addition to the two fatalities, one person sustained serious injuries and is receiving urgent medical care.

Previously, Briefly News reported that a 13-year-old boy is the sole survivor of a horrific accident, which claimed the lives of three people on the R67 between Seymour and Whittlesea. The youngster survived the fatal crash between a sedan and a sport utility vehicle (SUV), which resulted in the SUV catching fire. The accident occurred at approximately 1 am on 3 April 2026, as Good Friday got off to a bad note in the Eastern Cape.
