GAUTENG — Tiffany Nicole Meek, the 31-year-old mother accused of murdering her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek, has denied allegations that she directly blamed the transport driver for the boy's death.

The driver, Ndonga Khumalo, was one of the witnesses who testified before the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, where Meek appeared for the murder of her son.

Tiffany Meek was arrested on 11 July 2025, approximately two months after the boy's death. She faces charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Khumalo discusses allegations made against him

Testifying as a State witness in the matter, Khumalo testified about how he was viewed as Jayden-Lee’s killer. Khumalo dropped the boy off at the complex after school, but his mother claimed that he never made it home.

Khumalo also told the court that following the death, whenever people saw his vehicle, they said it was the person who murdered Jayden-Lee.

Tiffany’s lawyer disputes Khumalo’s evidence

According to the evidence presented, Meek phoned and allegedly confronted Lerato Khumalo (Ndonga’s wife) directly, after the Grade 5 pupil’s body was discovered, accusing her of the killing.

"How do you know that my son was found on the stairs, murdered? You are the killer. You killed my son," were the alleged words attributed to Meek.

The accusation formed a central part of the state's line of argument, suggesting that Meek's conduct in the aftermath of Jayden-Lee's death was inconsistent with that of a grieving, uninvolved parent.

But Meek's defence attorney, Mohammed Yusuf Raza, rejected the account outright, saying that his client had no capacity at that moment to engage in a dispute with anyone, as her sole focus was reaching her child.

"The accused person indicates she just received news that the child was found. She had no time to still dispute with Lerato. All that was communicated with her was, please come to Swazi's place. Your child has been found, and that was the entire sum between Lerato and herself," Raza told the court.

The matter will resume on 26 August 2026.

Meek maintains that the real killer is out there

Briefly News reported that Meek was denied bail in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court by Magistrate Anneline Africa in July 2025.

Her lawyer, Noven Naidoo, spoke to the media outside the court about his client's plans after her bail application failed.

Naidoo said Meek wanted to leave no stone unturned in her quest for justice, as she claimed that the real killer was still at large.
