WESTERN CAPE — Four burnt bodies were discovered in Du Noon, Milnerton, on the afternoon of 23 August 2026, prompting a murder investigation by Western Cape police. The incident occurred months after three bodies were found in a similar condition near the R535 in Mpumalanga.
According to the South African Police Service, officers were called to an open field near the N7 off-ramp on Malibongwe Drive after receiving reports of human remains. Emergency responders found the charred bodies of four individuals, positioned a short distance apart from one another. All four victims were burnt beyond recognition, making identification impossible at the scene.
Investigators examining the site found preliminary evidence indicating that tyres had been placed over the victims prior to being set alight, a method associated with vigilante-style killings. Police have not yet established the identities of any of the deceased, and the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear. No motive has been confirmed at this stage.
Serious Violent Crimes Unit takes over
Detectives from the Serious Violent Crimes Unit have taken charge of the investigation and formally opened a murder docket. The unit is continuing to process the crime scene and gather evidence that may shed light on what occurred and who may be responsible. Western Cape police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
