WESTERN CAPE - Police in the Western Cape have announced a R100,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for 11 deaths across three separate shooting incidents in the province.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi announced the reward at the scene of one of the shootings on Sunday, 09 August 2026. He added that at this stage, it was unclear what the motive was.
“We are calling to the community or anyone who might have information. As the SAPS, we have a R100,000 reward. Our wish is we want to ensure there is justice,” he said.

Three incidents in three locations
The first incident took place in the TR Section of Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha on Saturday, 8 August 2026, where three men aged 25, 31, and 35 were shot dead. In Langa, four men and a woman were killed at Winnie Mandela Street in Phase 3, KwaLanga, also on Saturday night.
A third shooting occurred on Sunday morning in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu, where two men and a woman were killed. Two additional victims were wounded and survived the attack.
South Africans react to the news
Social media users responded to the news with a mixture of scepticism and frustration. Lindiwe Mnyandu wrote:
"Then they will be out on R1,000 bail."
Katlego Motlhabi expressed doubt about the reward's effectiveness, saying:
"Highly doubt they will be found; some communities have a tendency of protecting and even hiding gangsters and drug dealers. Some would even fight the police to assist them."
Dunga Mxothwa echoed that sentiment:
"The problem in our communities is we are shielding these criminals. When they kill someone close, then we cry.”
Itumeleng Nkhoke questioned the terms of the reward, writing:
"So, you must give information for all three shootings to get the 100K."
Agwaze Nkonye Christian simply stated:
"The Western Cape is a crime scene."
Other Wester Cape shootings in 2026
