WESTERN CAPE — National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Fadiel Adams has reflected on his recent appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, saying that he used it to discuss the state of the Coloured community in South Africa.

Speaking in front of branded NCC pull-up banners inside what appeared to be a community hall, Adams described his testimony before the commission as an opportunity to place what he called "the Coloured issue" on the national agenda.

Adams discusses his Madlanga Commission appearance

Speaking about his appearance, Adams said he submitted his testimony to the Madlanga Commission on a Monday at 9 pm, and by 10 am the following morning, a KwaZulu-Natal individual he had flagged for alleged human trafficking connections had been arrested.

He also told those gathered that he ‘took the hiding’ from the Commissioners in order to put forth issues he considered central to the Coloured community. He said these included the absence of promotions for Coloured police officers over the past three years and the fact that there is only one Coloured general in the Western Cape, a province where coloured people are the majority.

“I put the coloured issue on the table, in front of the country. And after that, take the hiding that comes. I took the hiding,” he said.

Adams confirmed that no commissioner questioned him on his submission, which he interpreted as the commission accepting his testimony in full.
