Department of Employment and Labour Shares List of Gauteng Centres That Will Be Closed Temporarily

GAUTENG - Two of Gauteng's busiest labour offices will shut their doors at the end of August 2026. The Department of Employment and Labour confirmed that both the Sandton and Johannesburg Labour Centres will close on 31 August 2026, affecting clients across the region.
The Sandton Labour Centre, located at 424 9th Street, Marlboro, will close to allow for essential maintenance and upgrades. The construction phase is expected to last approximately 12 months, during which the building will be completely inaccessible to the public.
The Johannesburg Labour Centre at 56 Main Street, Marshalltown, faces a different situation. Its current lease has come to an end, and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is finalising renovations at a new building to accommodate the office. No reopening date has been confirmed for either location yet.
Where to go instead
To manage the increased demand at surrounding offices, the department will redeploy officials to three nearby labour centres.

Clients can visit the Soweto Labour Centre at 2 Khumalo Road, Orlando West; the Randburg Labour Centre at the corner of Oak and Hill Street, Hillview Centre, Ground Floor; or the Kempton Park Labour Centre at Trust Bank Building, Ground Floor, corner of Voortrekker and Wolf Streets.
The department also plans to explore visiting points and temporary placements in other government buildings to keep services running during the transition period.

How to reach the Department during the closure
For those who cannot travel to an alternative office, the department has made several options available. Clients are encouraged to use the online services portal at www.labour.gov.za for assistance.
Telephonic support will be available on 082 908 1706 and 079 511 3178, from 07:30 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Some officials will also work remotely under a hybrid arrangement, linking up with colleagues at neighbouring centres.
Updates on the renovation progress and anticipated reopening dates for both offices will be shared through the department's official website, as well as its Instagram, Facebook and X accounts.
