KWAZULU-NATAL -A teenage learner was shot and killed inside school premises in KwaNdengezi, west of Durban, on Monday, 14 September 2026, prompting police to open a murder case and launch an active manhunt for the suspect.
According to SABC News, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the victim, aged 19, and the suspected shooter were seen entering the school grounds together before the attack unfolded.
Suspect fled wearing school uniform
Once inside the school, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at the learner before fleeing the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that when the suspect made his escape, he was dressed in the same school uniform as the victim, a detail that has complicated efforts to identify and locate him.

No arrest had been made at the time of publication, and police appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in tracking down the suspect.
Motive under investigation
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. Authorities are working to establish what led to the shooting and why the two individuals, who appear to have known each other well enough to arrive at the school together, ended up in a deadly confrontation.

In similar news a Grade 10 learner allegedly shot his fellow classmate at a Durban secondary school.The incident that occurred on Wednesday 1 June at Phambili High School, based in Sea View, left parents reeling in horror and shock. The incident allegedly happened after two boys had an argument and began fighting. One of the boys then pulled out a gun and shot the other.
