EKURHULENI - Gauteng authorities have descended on Dawn Park in Boksburg, where the body of a ninth woman was discovered on Thursday morning, 17 September 2026.
The latest discovery has deepened concern across Ekurhuleni, with authorities under increasing pressure to find those responsible for the growing number of women whose bodies have been found in the region since July.
Lesufi vows to find those responsible
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has vowed that law enforcement will continue its efforts to track down the person or people behind the killings.

Speaking to SABC News following the latest discovery, Lesufi said the perpetrators had effectively declared war on the state.
“We’ll get them,” he said, urging residents not to lose hope despite the disturbing developments.
Lesufi said authorities would not be intimidated by the killings and would continue working with law enforcement agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
“We are not going to relax or be scared of anyone. They’ve declared war against the state and we’ll respond,” the premier said.
He added that he remained confident in the law enforcement agencies tasked with investigating the cases.
Police face growing pressure
Deputy National Police Commissioner Tebello Mosikili has also spoken out about the growing number of bodies being discovered across Ekurhuleni.
“We cannot keep picking up bodies like this,” Mosikili said, highlighting the urgency of the investigations.
The latest victim was found partially clothed in Dawn Park after a passerby reportedly came across her body. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
The discovery brings the number of women’s bodies found across the East Rand since July to nine.
Nine women found across Ekurhuleni
The deaths have been reported in several areas, including Rhodesfield and Kempton Park, where four women’s bodies were discovered between July and September.
Other bodies were later found in Olifantsfontein, KwaThema and Clayville in Tembisa. The repeated discoveries have sparked growing anxiety among residents, with questions being raised about whether the cases are connected.
Authorities have not yet confirmed that all nine deaths are linked, and investigations remain ongoing.
Police have established a multidisciplinary team to work on the cases and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
DA offers R500,000 reward for information
Briefly News also reported that the Democratic Alliance has pledged an additional R500,000 to the existing cash reward for information leading to a breakthrough in the deaths of multiple women in Ekurhuleni. The party made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, 16 September, framing the contribution as support for law enforcement efforts already under way.
