GAUTENG — The Democratic Alliance has pledged an additional R500,000 to the existing cash reward for information leading to a breakthrough in the deaths of multiple women in Ekurhuleni.
The party made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, 16 September, framing the contribution as support for law enforcement efforts already under way.
"The DA is adding an extra reason for all relevant information to be handed over now, to address this crisis quickly. Ekurhuleni cannot wait. Women cannot wait. Justice cannot wait," the DA said in its statement.

Reward money added to police offer
The DA's pledge comes a day after Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane announced a R400,000 cash reward, appealing to members of the public with knowledge of the crimes to come forward. The DA's addition of R500 000 pushes the combined figure to R900 000.
The rewards have been offered after eight women's bodies were discovered dumped in and around Ekurhuleni since 15 July, prompting widespread alarm. The killings have drawn significant public attention and raised urgent questions about the safety of women in the area.
Public reacts to DA's pledge
The announcement drew a range of responses on social media, with users divided on whether the move represented genuine leadership or political point-scoring.
Sphamandla Ngubane wrote:
