Tsakane Matlala and 2 Co-Accused Granted R20,000 Bail in Fraud Case

GAUTENG — The wife of alleged crime boss Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala has been released on bail, along with two other accused, after appearing in court on charges linked to a fraudulent lease agreement in Waterkloof.
Tsakane Matlala, Given Makofane and Claudette Masethe each received bail of R20,000 when they appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. The three were arrested a day earlier as part of an active police investigation.
The case has been postponed to 29 October 2026.
Conditions imposed by the magistrate
Magistrate Mbele granted bail subject to strict conditions. The three accused must refrain from contacting any state witnesses named in the charge sheet and are required to report to a police station on a weekly basis until the matter is concluded.

In the case, Vusimuzi Matlala is listed as accused number one, with Tsakane as accused number two. Makofane and Masethe are accused numbers three and four.
The charges centre on an allegedly fraudulent lease agreement for a property in Waterkloof, which was reportedly let for R95,000 per month.
Investigation extends beyond Waterkloof
The State has indicated that the probe is not limited to the single property. Investigators are examining allegations that fraudulent documents were used to secure properties in various parts of Gauteng. A further allegation suggests that Cat Matlala used false documentation to obtain citizenship in Eswatini.
This matter is separate from a case currently before the Johannesburg High Court, in which both Cat Matlala and Tsakane are also accused. That case carries charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, fraud and money laundering. All five accused in that matter have pleaded not guilty.
The Waterkloof fraud case remains before the Pretoria Magistrates Court, with the State expected to present its case as proceedings continue. The accused have not been convicted of any of the allegations against them.
Tsakane linked to a corrupt muicipal tender
Previously, Briefly News reported that Tsakane Matlala has been linked to a R3.7 million municipal training contract awarded to a shell company. According to investigations, the company named Buena Vista Learning Academy was awarded the tender by the City of Ekurhuleni to provide skills development training in the metropolitan area. Investigations reveal Matlala took control of the company just 10 days before the tender, which had previously functioned as a grill restaurant.
