GAUTENG — A close associate of businessman Vusimusi "Cat" Matlala has been arrested in Pretoria, in a development linked to alleged fraud surrounding a luxury lease agreement in Waterkloof.
The arrest was carried out early on Tuesday, 22 September, by members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). The arrested individual's Pretoria East home was previously raided by PKTT members in June 2026.
He was then taken in for questioning.

Allegations of falsified bank statements
The PKTT's investigation centres on claims that the associate falsified bank statements on Matlala's behalf to enable him to secure the Waterkloof lease, which carries a monthly rental of R95,000.
The Waterkloof lease refers to a private two-year rental of a large luxury mansion in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, at R95,000 per month. Matlala and his wife allegedly signed it in January 2025.
Reports say he presented himself as an eSwatini prince named Vusimuzi Dlamini, arrived with a blue-light motorcade and bodyguards, and used an eSwatini identity document.

Eswatini Home Affairs official arrested
Briefly News also highlighted facts about the arrest of Eswatini Home Affairs official Nonhlanhla Phumla Malambe.
Malambe was accused of helping Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala obtain fraudulent identity documents and a birth certificate.
Matlala denied having Eswatini documentation, but his explanation for using the Dlamini surname changed.
