As Bafana Bafana prepares to face Ghana and Sudan in their 2021 CAF African Cup of Nations qualifiers this week, striker Percy Tau's arrival has caught the attention of Twitter users.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns hitman is currently on the books of English Premier League side, Brighton & Hove Albion, and his arrival has been welcomed.
With the coach Ntseki having difficulties in getting experienced players due to injuries and travel restrictions in Europe, Tau is currently the only overseas-based player in camp.
Players such as midfielders Bongani Zungu and Dean Furman, who are based in the United Kingdom, and France-based Keagan Dolly are doubtful.
Although Ntseki led his troops through their paces on Monday afternoon at Discovery Park in Sandton, they are expected to train at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Despite not having regular game time in England with the Seagulls, Tau's talent and ability to penetrate the opposing defence are well documented but some in the Twitter community are not 100% confident of his impact this week.
@Mbarara1 questioned Tau's inclusion in the team:
“Why did he come here, he does not play at BHA and we are on the UK redlist. He'll have to quarantine when he goes back...”
@Dumisane_ has an advice for the Mpumalanga-born striker:
“He must be careful with travel ban restrictions, George Lebese terminated his contract because he couldn't go back to America.”
@Ngxumalo1 said:
“Is warming the bench in Europe better than game time in South Africa? What's the selection criteria.”
@Teebogo7 is expecting a better display from the striker:
“I'm sure the lion is hungry, I'm expecting too much aggression.”
@Samuel89st suggested that the former Champions League winner with Masandawana should dump the EPL outfit.
“He is not going back to that useless club.”
While many seemed to welcome the skilful attacker back home, @Slvesterv remains concerned with the 26-year-old's current form as he is not playing at his club.
“Match fitness? Form? But yeah Percy is here.”
The match against the Black Stars will be staged at FNB Stadium on Thursday before the clash versus Sudan away at Al-Hilal Stadium on Sunday.
Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that Bafana coach Ntseki was focusing on ensuring he gives a fair opportunity to South African-born players.
The former school teacher was arguing against the idea of roping in the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino and Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic, who are eligible to represent Bafana.
Although the two were not born in South Africa - Sirinois from Uruguay while Nurkovic was born in Serbia - both players qualify to play for Bafana.
Meanwhile, Ntseki is now keeping his focus on guiding the former African champions to the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
