Tylon Smith joins QPR from Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC released an official statement on their website to announce Smith's move to QPR for an undisclosed fee.

“Stellenbosch FC is proud to confirm that academy graduate and Stellenbosch local, Tylon Smith, has completed a permanent transfer to EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers,” said Stellenbosch in a statement on Wednesday.
“Everyone at Stellenbosch FC wishes Tylon all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter and looks forward to seeing him fulfil his undoubted potential.”

Speaking after completing his move to QPR, Smith expressed his excitement at joining the English club and talked about being familiar with their style of play.

“I’m very happy to be here,” said a smiling Smith, who will initially integrate into the Development Squad.
“I’m really proud and grateful for the opportunity QPR have given me to showcase my talent.
“QPR is well-known for developing young players. The style of play here is similar to how we play in South Africa, and it’s a style that I really like.”

Reflecting on last year’s U20 AFCON success, Smith admitted:

“It was incredible! Scoring the winning goal in the semi-final against Nigeria was amazing and we made history by winning the final."
“It was very special to win Player of the Tournament - it’s very rare for it to go to a defender, it usually goes to an attacking player, so that was amazing for me.
“My main focus now is QPR. I’m going to give my all for this club and hopefully together we can be successful.”
