Sundowns Secure Major New Signing As Possible Replacement for Lucas Ribeiro

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly reached an agreement with a European club to secure the signing of Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos, with the deal set to be finalised before the end of the summer transfer window on Monday, September 22, 2025.

The Betway Premiership giants have been in the transfer market looking for a possible replacement for Lucas Ribeiro, who decided to leave the club after leading them to their eighth successive league title last season.
Ribeiro also had a wonderful performance at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he won the Goal of the Tournament award.

The 26-year-old also took Sundowns to FIFA over a contract dispute after the PSL giants stopped him from leaving in the summer.

Since Ribeiro's departure, Sundowns have yet to sign a midfielder who can fill the void left by the Brazilian.
Sundowns secure Santos signing
According to reports, Sundowns have reached an agreement with Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes SC for the signing of Nuno Santos.
The Brazilians are expected to pay R20 million for the signing of Santos from the Portuguese club, with the deal expected to be completed by Monday, September 22, 2025, when the transfer window in the South League shuts.
Since joining Vitoria Guimaraes from Major League Soccer (MLS) in July 2023, he has made 90 appearances, contributing eight goals and providing 16 assists.

On the international level, the 26-year-old was part of the Portugal U17 squad that won the UEFA U17 European Championship. He has also represented his country at U16 through U21 levels, but he has yet to earn a full national team call-up.

Bafana star leaves Sundowns for PSL rivals
Briefly News also reported that a Bafana Bafana defender has parted ways with Sundowns to join another Premier Soccer League side this summer.
The South African international would struggle to get game time; that's why he decided to leave the club.
