Mamelodi Sundowns have etched their name into Premier Soccer League history, setting a new record of 31 consecutive unbeaten home matches following a commanding 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the weekend.
The record extends back to 25 May 2024, when Jaedin Rhodes denied the Brazilians a perfect domestic campaign on the final day of the 2023/24 season. Since that defeat, Sundowns have turned both Loftus Versfeld and Lucas Moripe Stadium into near-impenetrable fortresses, a streak that has now officially surpassed any previous mark in PSL history.

Malibongwe Khoza broke the deadlock with his 21st goal, a product of Sundowns' suffocating control of the ball in the opening period. Gallants, under coach Phuti Mohafe, arrived in Tshwane without a single league win to their name this season and offered little resistance against the home side's relentless pressure.
The hosts were in control heading into the break, though the half was not without concern. Defender Khuliso Mudau was forced off with an injury before the interval, replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa in a setback for coach Miguel Cardoso's backline options.
Cassius Mailula then put the result beyond doubt shortly after the hour mark with a composed finish, his third goal in four league appearances since rejoining the club during the off-season. The strike underlined the value of his return to Chloorkop and reinforced Sundowns' depth in the final third.

The victory lifted Sundowns to third place on the log, level on points with Kaizer Chiefs in second and Orlando Pirates in first. The title race at the top of the table remains tightly contested with the three Gauteng heavyweights separated only on goal difference.
Cardoso's side will now shift their focus to cup competition, with Golden Arrows visiting for the MTN8 semi-final first leg this weekend. Sundowns will be eager to maintain their home dominance as they pursue a double in the early stages of the season.
