Orlando Pirates are reportedly monitoring Brazilian striker Alvaro de Oliveira as the club seeks additional firepower ahead of a demanding campaign across five cup competitions.
De Oliveira became available after leaving UAE side Al Bataeh Club, and South African representatives connected to the player have since reached out to gauge interest from clubs in the Premier Soccer League.
**Pirates Yet to Make a Formal Offer**
According to a source cited by Soccer Laduma, the Buccaneers have not yet submitted an official bid for the striker. The interest has so far been channelled through scouts and individuals operating on the fringes of the club's recruitment structure.

"Pirates are one of the clubs that were approached, but there was no formal approach made to the club. It was more through people and scouts close to or working with the club to try and see if there could be interest and whether it could then be taken further to the higher management," the source told the publication.

The same source noted that those pushing for the deal drew confidence from Pirates' recent move for Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen, viewing it as a sign that the club remains open to recruiting overseas-based players.
"The South African representatives and their counterparts overseas were motivated by the fact that Pirates recently signed Sebastian Pedersen. They felt that if Pirates were looking at that type of profile, they could also be interested in a player of Alvaro's calibre," the source added.
**Attacking Depth a Growing Concern at Pirates
The renewed focus on the striker market reflects genuine concern within the camp. Evidence Makgopa is currently sidelined through injury, while Yanela Mbuthuma has struggled for consistency in front of goal.
With the Buccaneers committed to five separate cup competitions this season, the demand for reliable goal-scoring options has become increasingly urgent. A proven finisher of De Oliveira's experience could offer the club a ready-made solution without the development period typically associated with younger recruits.
Pedersen, despite completing his move to the club, has not yet featured in a competitive match for Pirates.
