The March and March Movement has announced plans to invade the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 October 2026, as part of its ongoing campaign against undocumented immigration in South Africa.

According to IOL, activist Mzwandile Shandu told reporters on Friday, 9 October, that the intention was to interrupt the match and signal to the South African government that the movement would not relent.

"The illegal foreigners started the war yesterday by injuring our member. We aim to go to Moses Mabhida Stadium tomorrow and make sure that the final is not taking place. We cannot have such a big event in our city while our country is being taken by illegal foreigners," Shandu said.

Fellow protester Mzwandile Khoza echoed the sentiment, stating that a heavy police presence would not deter them.

"Our government is taking us for granted, and we want to show government officials that we are serious about the issue of illegal immigration. We are calling all South Africans to help us fight the foreigners and our corrupt government," Khoza said.

Durban March passes without incident

Thursday's protest in Durban moved through the central business district without violent clashes, in contrast to the chaos of the previous day. The march began and ended on Che Guevara Road, with demonstrators entering several businesses while carrying sticks. A significant police deployment was credited with preventing the unrest from escalating.

On Wednesday, vehicles were set alight in the Durban CBD as protesters moved through parts of the city, shutting down foreign-owned businesses. The Fire Department dispatched multiple vehicles to address the blazes. Anti-immigration protests also took place simultaneously in Hillbrow and Orlando East in Johannesburg, Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape, and Epping in Cape Town.

Previous disruptions precede Stadium threat

The stadium threat follows an incident on 30 September in which members of the Zulu regiments, known as Amabutho, disrupted the Ingonyama Trust Board's Rural Economy Development and Investment Indaba at the Durban International Convention Centre. Shirtless Amabutho members carrying traditional sticks, knobkerries, and shields forced proceedings to a halt for approximately an hour.
