AKA Pulls Out of Upcoming Gig Amid Controversy Over Nelli Tembe’s Death

- South African rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes has pulled out of an upcoming public gig and to many this has come as no surprise

- The popular musician was due to perform at a huge gathering in Johannesburg towards the end of May - -Joburg Day

- According to his management, Forbes has decided to withdraw from the booking in order to heal and do some introspection following the leak of some disturbing videos

AKA has pulled out of an upcoming gig. The Fela in Versace hit maker was scheduled to perform at the Huawei Joburg Day at the end of May but has now cancelled. This would have been the rapper’s second gig since the passing of his fiancée Nelli Tembe.

In a statement, AKA’s management explained that the decision to pull out of the gig was so the rapper could take some time out to focus on his state of mind.

The statement reads:

“Joburg Day is one of the highlights of AKA’s year, as he has been a part of its line-up since 2014. It is with a heavy heart that he withdraws from participating from what has always been a magnificent working relationship with 947 and Primedia. He is very grateful to the entire Joburg Day team, who have been understanding of his decision.“

The statement also adds that due to the conversations about him on social media, he has decided to take some time out for introspection and healing.

AKA has been trending on social media as calls to mute the rapper continue to grow. Briefly News previously reported that the hashtag #MuteAKA has been growing in popularity on social media as more and more social media users join the calls to boycott the rapper and his music.

This call comes after disturbing videos were leaked of AKA and the late Nelli Tembe. Some of the footage has left many believing that the Fela In Versace hitmaker had been abusing the 22-year-old.

An anti-GBV group, Women For Change, has taken to Instagram to call for the muting of the rapper’s music until further notice. The activist group called on radio stations to boycott the rapper’s tracks.

Their call follows Ntsiki Mazwai's, who also shared that she believes the rapper should be muted amid accusations that he abused the late Nelli Tembe.

As more videos of the toxic relationship leak, Mazwai believes that it is irresponsible to have his music played on radio. Taking to social media, she posted:

“I think all radio stations need to mute AKA music till further notice...”
