57 Passengers Injured and Six Dead After Bus Catches Fire in Tshwane

- A bus fire on the R537 Moloto Road left 57 passengers injured and 6 dead in Tshwane

- Tshwane Emergency Services eventually extinguished the flames and discovered that six passengers were unable to escape

A bus caught fire on the R537 Moloto Road on 21 May 2021 which resulted in six people tragically losing their lives. 57 other people were injured in the blaze.

Tshwane Emergency Services were able to eventually extinguish the fire. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they learned that 14 patients needed treatment and other patients had been rushed to hospital by private ambulances.

According to News24, deputy chief of the Tshwane Emergency Services Thabo Charles Mabaso revealed that the Putco bus had caught fire near the Roodeplaat Dam at approximately 14:00.

In total, the bus was transporting 63 passengers when the incident occurred. The bus had been travelling from Marabastad in Tshwane to Tweefontein in Mpumalanga.

Times Live reported that out of the 14 patients the firefighters encountered, one of them was critically injured.

Earlier, Briefly News reported that a man has reportedly been arrested for allegedly starting one of the fires that wreaked havoc in Cape Town. Firefighters battled the massive blaze on Table Mountain and received calls about several people making bush fires.

Reports say that there were two calls in succession that people had been seen in the bushes starting fires. There were allegedly three people accused of arson. Law enforcement detained one person for allegedly being present at the area of the fire.

Upon questioning the unnamed individual, the man alleged that he was attempting to stop the fire before telling law enforcement that he had been the one to start it.

In other news, a fire has ripped through the Charlotte Maxeke hospital and as a result, patients were evacuated.

David Makhuru, Premier of Gauteng, has declared that the hospital will shut down.

400 patients were evacuated following the blaze, 270 patients are still in the hospital awaiting their evacuation. The patients have been distributed to other hospitals throughout South Africa according to IOL.

Parts of the third-floor parking collapsed due to the raging inferno and firefighters battled to get the blaze under control.
