WESTERN CAPE - A truck was struck by a brick on the N2 highway in the early hours of Monday morning, sending fresh shockwaves through a community already on edge over safety on one of South Africa's busiest roads.

The attack happened just before the Engen garage along the N2. Crime and safety commentator Yusuf Abramjee flagged the incident on social media, alerting his followers to yet another dangerous confrontation between motorists and unknown individuals targeting passing vehicles.

Fear grows after Bedfordview tragedy

The N2 incident comes in the wake of a separate and fatal brick attack that took place in Bedfordview, where a woman lost her life after a brick shattered her windscreen as she drove under a bridge. That tragedy has left motorists shaken and demanding urgent action from authorities.

Residents and road users who responded to Abramjee's post called on authorities to respond decisively, with one person suggesting that bridges over the N2 be properly enclosed to stop objects from being thrown onto traffic below. Others pointed out that similar attacks had been reported on the same highway before, expressing frustration that little had been done to protect drivers, commuters and workers who use the route daily.

Gauteng motorist struck by rock

Briefly News also reported that a Gauteng motorist died after a brick was thrown from an overpass onto the N1 South, causing a fatal crash. Toyota struck by a brick. The incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, between the Maraisburg and N17 off-ramps. Alive said a silver Toyota was struck by a brick, which smashed through the windscreen and caused fatal injuries to the driver. Paramedics responded to the scene, but the motorist was declared dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
