Hawks swoop in on eThekwini's Mayor Gumede over alleged corruption

- Zandile Gumede, mayor of eThekwini, and senior ANC councillor Mondli Mthembu could face arrest in the near future

- According to reports, the two are accused of corruption, money laundering, and fraud

- A senior Hawks investigator says it is only a matter of time before the arrests are made

eThekwini's Mayor Zandile Gumede and Mondli Mthembu, senior ANC councillor, could possibly be arrested by the Hawks on allegations of corruption, fraud, and money laundering.

The Hawks have been investigating the two, and the investigation has now been completed.

This comes after 3 municipality officials were arrested earlier, according to a report by News24. The Hawks then shifted their attention to Gumede and Mthembu.

According to those close to the case, it's only a matter of time. According to reports, a senior Hawks official involved in the case confirmed that a docket was opened.

The investigation has been completed and we are tying a few loose ends before they get arrested. Following the investigation, the team has compiled a report. The report is accompanied by piles and piles of annexures which are contained in many boxes.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the investigation was first launched in May, and the Hawks are now sorting out the logistics of making the arrests.

Gumede has been linked to numerous reports of wrongdoing, including a case of a R200 million waste removal and illegal dumping tender.
