Mzansi rapper, AKA, has decided to donate R100k and hand out food to the students at the University of Witswaterand (Wits), in solidarity over the recent protests.
AKA made the decision to help out yesterday and in a series of tweets began getting the attention of major role players, including the University sectors. His handover and donation took place earlier today.
The university's Student Representative Council (Wits SRC) said the Super Mega handed over the cheque at the Wits Great Hall Piazza, followed by the handover of 500 burgers and chips at the Knockando Hall Residence.
Wits SRC was super excited to have Bhova, My SuperMega himself at the handover.
Even the Wits Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) and Wits Junction (Junction Residence) thanked the super star for his donation and making himself available to reach out to the students. They said his donation was a true act of leadership and they hoped that his colleagues will follow suit.
AKA, who's real name is Kiernan Forbes, tweeted about his decision to get involved. He said he had been following the saga unfolding at Wits and felt that something needed to be done for the kids, the same people who public figures ask for support when they want something.
He went on to say that government and institutions may not have all the answers but its up to us to help each other.
He tweeted about his grand stand, the R100k donation and commitment to hand out 500 burgers and chis and appealed to others to stop what they are doing, and come forward to help too.
He said this donation is not a political initiative, its about demonstrating that we are the only ones that can help each other.
He urged all celebrities, private citizens and leaders to put aside their political affiliation and come together to help the students.
The Wits SRC also tweeted that they hoped other celebrities will follow in AKA's footsteps, and make a small donation.
Briefly.co.za reported that AKA opened up about his relationship with DJ Zinhle and Pearl Thusi.
AKA and Pearl Thusi’s relationship has come far. There was a time when the two could not stand each other and would beef live on social media. Today, AKA describes her as part of the family.
As the day of AKA’s roast draws near, many were shocked to learn that Pearl Thusi would be the roast master. The rapper told TshisaLIVE that their beef was over and he was happy that she would be a part of the roast. AKA said that the negativity was all in past and he actually endorsed the decision to appoint Pearl.
