AKA, who's real name is Kiernan Forbes, tweeted about his decision to get involved. He said he had been following the saga unfolding at Wits and felt that something needed to be done for the kids, the same people who public figures ask for support when they want something.

He went on to say that government and institutions may not have all the answers but its up to us to help each other.

He tweeted about his grand stand, the R100k donation and commitment to hand out 500 burgers and chis and appealed to others to stop what they are doing, and come forward to help too.

He said this donation is not a political initiative, its about demonstrating that we are the only ones that can help each other.

He urged all celebrities, private citizens and leaders to put aside their political affiliation and come together to help the students.

The Wits SRC also tweeted that they hoped other celebrities will follow in AKA's footsteps, and make a small donation.
