Mzansi rapper, Emtee, took to social media to finally shed some light on the news that people have been much anticipating – the rapper announced his departure from record label, Ambitiouz Entertainment.

There had been speculations on where Emtee stood with his label for a while now. But the statement Emtee released on social media explains that he has parted ways with them.

Since last year, the rapper has been hinting at a split from Ambitiouz Entertainment simply because they did not allow him the freedom to be the artist he wanted to be.

After Emtee expressed how unhappy he was with his label, Mzansi fans called for the company to release him with a hashtag, #FreeEmtee which trended on social media for a while. But despite the public outcry, Emtee remained loyal to the label but their relationship was rocky.

According to SA Hip Hop magazine, various publications, including Sunday World and City Press, reported on the issue over a month ago. City Press reported that the reason Emtee had stayed with the label, despite his declaration to leave, was because he owed them millions. It was believed that the rapper had to remain with the label long enough to cover his debt, presumably through album releases. Sunday World reported that the rapper’s assets were allegedly repossessed, including cars and a house, by Ambitiouz Entertainment.

Emtee then accused the media of false reporting.

But yesterday, Emtee released a statement on social media highlighting his current position.

A part of the statement read: “Following a long and in-depth reflection on my career as an artist, where I am now and where I see myself in the next few years, I have made a decision that it is time for me to part ways with Ambitiouz Entertainment. This is the decision I didn’t make lightly and without due consideration,”

About four weeks ago, Briefly.co.za reported that Mzansi rapper, AKA, came to Emtee’s aid recently when what was supposed to be an innocent Q&A session between fans and Emtee turned into a trap for insulting questions. AKA stood up in Emtee’s defence.

This isn’t the first time that Emtee has held a Q&A session with his fans on different social media platforms. TshisaLive reported that Emtee usually does this to allow the opportunity for his real fans to hear his thoughts on whatever they wanted to know about him.

However, that Wednesday, the Q&A turned into a mocking session, which led to the rapper announcing a break from Twitter until further notice.

I’m dropping a song in a week or 2. Not tweeting till then. Peace,” tweeted Emtee.
