Eric Dion Warren took a BMW out for a test drive while the purchase for the car was being completed. This happened on 7 June, 2019, instead of taking the car for an innocent test drive, Warren drove to AIM bank in Wolfforth, Texas.
He put a paper bag over his head and entered the bank. He'd placed a demand note on the teller;s counter. The note informed the teller that this is a bank robbery and he wanted $10 000 (R150 000).
Warren produced what was believed to be a handgun and repeated the note's instructions to the teller.
This is where the story takes a strange turn, stranger than it already is, he returned to the dealership 15 minutes later and waved $3 000 (R44 000) around and demanded to use the cash as a down payment on the luxury car according to Business Insider.
However, unbeknownst to him, the dealership had received a call from the police about a bank robbery and the vehicle matched the description of the one Warren had used.
Warren was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, the prosecutors did not have to work hard for a conviction, Warren was arrested with $5 000 (R75 000) on him, a pellet gun and his fingerprints and DNA were all over the note used at the bank.
