Two of South Africa's most prominent media figures have reportedly parted ways. According to Phil Mphela, Thabile Ngwato and Thokozani Nkosi have officially dissolved their joint ownership of the Ngwato Nkosi Group, the media company behind three well-known television channels, splitting their shared assets between them.
The pair originally co-founded the business in 2018, when it was registered as Ngwato Nkosi Holdings. A year later, the company successfully bid for a vacant news channel slot on MultiChoice, launching Newzroom Afrika in 2019. Over time, the group expanded to include kids' channel PlayRoom and films channel Movie Room.
How the media assets were divided
Under the new arrangement, Thabile Ngwato retains sole ownership of Newzroom Afrika. Thokozani Nkosi, meanwhile, has launched a new venture called The Rooms Network, which takes ownership of both PlayRoom and Movie Room.
