Actress Nandi Mbatha has bravely opened up about a deeply painful chapter of her life, revealing she battled suicidal thoughts for two years and made several attempts to take her own life. The Savage Beauty star, also known for her role in Isithembiso, shared her story in the hope of reaching others who may be silently suffering.
Mbatha described a period during which she tried taking pills, drove recklessly in the hope of causing a fatal accident, and even cut herself. One particularly harrowing memory stood out: a night when she stood over a sharp knife on the floor, fully intending to fall on it.
"I was at a point where I was tired, and I really wanted to end it all."
Darkness at the height of her career
What makes Mbatha's story especially striking is that this dark period coincided with what she described as her professional prime. She was thriving on screen, yet privately falling apart, having assumed that success would bring happiness.

It was during this time that she says she had a profound spiritual encounter that changed everything. She described seeing Jesus appear to her in her apartment, in what she recalled as an almost otherworldly moment of stillness.
"I saw Jesus in my apartment that night. He came to me in a cloud. It was almost as if the whole world stood still, and it was just Him and me in that moment."
She added that He told her: "I know you're suffering right now. I can see everything you're going through, but I can't take it away from you right now because I need to use it. But you will be okay."

Baptism brought Nandi Mbatha freedom
Although her struggles did not vanish overnight, Mbatha held onto the promise she felt she had received. She reflected on her baptism as the turning point that brought lasting change.
"Since that day, since I got baptised, I haven't had suicidal thoughts or panic attacks. I've been set free from depression and anxiety."
For Mbatha, no amount of wealth or fame compares to what faith gave her.
"There is no greater success in the world than the knowledge of Jesus. You can have all the money and cars, you can have everything, but nothing surpasses the value that comes with knowing Jesus."
She shared a deeply emotional video from the day of her baptism, describing it as "the greatest decision I've ever made." Her hope now is that by speaking publicly, she can be a lifeline for anyone currently fighting the same invisible battles she once did.
