His son, kwaito legend Arthur Mafokate, took to Instagram to share the official funeral arrangements and post a heartfelt tribute to a man he lovingly called 'Daddy.'

Arthur, posting as @arthurmafokate, confirmed that the family will gather on Thursday, 10 September 2026, at 09:00 at The Plot Studios, located at 35 Lyncon Road, Carlswald Holdings. Family spokesperson Kabelo Mafokate will be on hand to represent the Mafokate family on the day. In his tribute post, Arthur Mafokate referred to his father as ‘Kgosi ya Dipere, The King of Horses,’ and acknowledged the wave of love the family had received since the news broke. He wrote:

Enos Mafokate's historic sporting legacy

Enos Mafokate's journey is one of the most remarkable in South African sporting history. He began his career as a stable hand during the apartheid era, a time when Black South Africans were deliberately excluded from equestrian sport. Through sheer determination, he went on to compete internationally and represented South Africa at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, a milestone that cemented his place in the country's sporting folklore.

His impact stretched well beyond the competition arena. In 2007, he founded the Soweto Equestrian Centre, an initiative designed to open the world of horse riding and animal care to township children who had long been shut out of the sport. His contributions to sport transformation were formally recognised when he received the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Award.

Arthur Mafokate shared an official family statement on Instagram announcing the death of his father, Enos Mafokate.
