Stormers hooker André-Hugo Venter marked five years with Nikki Erasmus on 4 September 2026. The 24-year-old posted a carousel of photos on Instagram with the caption:
"5 Fotos vir 5 jaar saam my beste mooiie, lief vir jou @nikkieerasmus" ("5 photos for 5 years together my best beauty, love you").
The post drew warm reactions from those close to the couple, but it also reignited interest in one of South Africa's most layered love stories in rugby.
Two rugby families, one remarkable connection
Nikki is the daughter of Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus. What makes the relationship so compelling is that the family bond runs deeper than simply a player dating his coach's daughter.

André-Hugo's father, former Springbok flanker André Venter Sr, and Rassie Erasmus were teammates, turning out together for the Free State Cheetahs and the Springboks during the late 1990s. André Venter Sr earned 66 Springbok caps between 1996 and 2001 and was part of the 1999 Rugby World Cup squad.
The couple began dating in September 2021, well before André-Hugo received his first Springbok call-up. When his selection was announced in 2024, some questioned whether the relationship had influenced the decision. Venter pushed back firmly, pointing out that he and Nikki had already been together for three years and that people were reading too much into it.
His rugby record supported his case. He broke into senior professional rugby at around 19, making his Stormers debut in the 2021 Rainbow Cup. In 2022, he came off the bench in the inaugural United Rugby Championship final against the Bulls and scored a try as the Stormers won 18-13 to lift the title.

A father-son Springbok milestone
On 20 July 2024, Venter made his Test debut against Portugal in Bloemfontein, scoring a try in a 64-21 win. The moment made him and his father the 16th father-son Springbok combination in South African rugby history, a milestone that carries particular weight given that André Venter Sr has been wheelchair-bound since André-Hugo was five years old, following a diagnosis of transverse myelitis.
André-Hugo has spoken openly about his father's influence on his career and his refusal to give up in the face of adversity.
Nikki, one of Rassie's twin daughters alongside Carli, studied at Stellenbosch University and has been a visible and proud supporter throughout her partner's career. The twins were also present during the Springboks' 2019 and 2023 World Cup campaigns.
Venter currently holds 77 Stormers caps and is contracted to the franchise until 2029.
