Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan has addressed the controversy surrounding Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus's approach to team announcements, saying the method matters less than ensuring players are fully informed throughout the process.
Van Graan made the remarks at the Gallagher Premiership launch held at Twickenham's Allianz Stadium, where he was asked to comment on the situation unfolding in South Africa.
Erasmus's naming method under scrutiny
Erasmus sparked debate last week when he named his Springboks squad on a Monday, only to make multiple changes over the following days, with alterations continuing right up to an hour before kick-off. The approach drew criticism from various corners of the rugby world, though van Graan stopped short of condemning it.
"I think there are many different ways to do it," van Graan said.
"The most important thing is whenever you name the team, the players must know what's going on. So I think crystal-clear communication, and that's something that we're very proud of."

Van Graan replaced Erasmus as Munster head coach in 2017 and is widely regarded as one of the candidates who could eventually succeed him in the Springboks role, though Erasmus's current contract runs through to the 2031 Rugby World Cup.
Focus shifts to Soweto decider
Beyond the naming debate, van Graan spoke enthusiastically about the broader Springboks versus All Blacks four-Test series, describing it as "fascinating" and praising the quality of rugby on display.
South Africa and New Zealand head into the third Test at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday, 5 September, with the series tied at one win apiece. The winner of Saturday's match will claim the South African leg of the series, before both sides travel to the United States for the fourth and final Test.

Van Graan praised the four-Test series between the Springboks and All Blacks, describing it as brilliant and saying the rivalry had produced fierce and fascinating contests. He highlighted the ebb and flow of the matches and the intensity of the smaller battles within each Test, adding that every South Africa-New Zealand Test on South African soil was a special occasion and that he expected the Soweto decider to be no different.
Van Graan also referenced his attendance at the Bulls versus All Blacks fixture earlier in the tour, calling it "special."
