Durban comedian and content creator Sed Pillay had South Africa in stitches after dropping a parody tribute song dedicated to Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus. He posted the selfie-style video on his TikTok page @sedpillay on 30 August 2026, and it quickly took off.

The clip, titled "Pappa Rassie: A South African Anthem," features bold on-screen graphics, inset images of Erasmus and other rugby figures, and a parody song sung to the tune of Lady Gaga's Paparazzi. Pillay sings lines like "I'm your biggest fan, you are the smartest man in rugby", with the chorus landing as a cheeky nod to the Boks' tactical kicking game.

The video arrived at just the right moment. The Springboks had levelled their series against New Zealand at one-all, and fan excitement was at fever pitch.

Who is behind the viral hit?

Sed Pillay is no stranger to viral moments. The former Deloitte management consultant walked away from a corporate career in 2023 to pursue comedy full-time, and has since built a massive online following through parody songs and sketches about South African life. His work has pulled in brand deals with the likes of Pepsi, KFC and Samsung, and he has performed sold-out shows at the Suncoast Globe in Durban and the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.

Erasmus, the man at the centre of the tribute, has coached the Springboks to back-to-back Rugby World Cup titles in 2019 and 2023, and was named World Rugby Coach of the Year in 2019. He is widely regarded as one of the most tactically gifted and psychologically sharp coaches the game has ever seen.
