Radio personality Anele Mdoda left Mzansi stunned on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, when she took to X to post four words that sent chills across the country: "The body of a 6th woman has been found." Her post, shared just after 9 AM, struck a nerve with thousands of South Africans alarmed by a mounting crisis in Ekurhuleni.

Over the course of roughly two months, six women have been found dead in and around the Ekurhuleni metro, with several of the discoveries concentrated near Kempton Park.

The grim sequence began on 15 July 2026, when a 37-year-old woman was found naked and bound with cable ties near the R21 in Rhodesfield. Her boyfriend was subsequently arrested in connection with her murder. A 32-year-old woman was then discovered partially clothed near the same road on 24 August. On 10 September, an unidentified woman's remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition. A fifth victim turned up in Olifantsfontein on 14 September, and the sixth body was discovered in Kwa-Thema, Springs, on the same day Anele posted her warning.

Among those who lost their lives was 38-year-old Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, a runner who left her home in Rhodesfield on 9 September for an afternoon jog and never came back. Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm with family members when her mother failed to return. Relatives formally identified Moselakgomo's body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, 14 September.

Mayor responds to mounting deaths

Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has publicly addressed the deaths, committing to pool city resources and beef up safety measures in the communities affected by the killings.
