EKURHULENI — The South African Police Service has confirmed that a sixth woman's body, discovered in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, on 15 September 2026, is not definitively linked to the five bodies found in nearby Kempton Park — but investigators have not excluded that possibility either.
The development was reported by eNCA journalist Pule Letshwiti-Jones. Senior SAPS officials from across the province are scheduled to convene in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Tuesday to deliberate on the growing number of deaths.

What is known about the Kempton Park discoveries
Four bodies were initially recovered in Kempton Park over the weekend of 12 September. A fifth was found two days later and was confirmed to be that of jogger Elizabeth Moselakgomo, who had gone missing on 13 September. Her family identified the remains. Of the five victims, two have been positively identified by police.
The cluster of deaths prompted widespread speculation about a serial killer operating in the Ekurhuleni area. SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe addressed those concerns directly, stating that the killings were not the work of a serial killer. Mathe confirmed that investigations remain active and ongoing.
Acting Police Minister weighs in
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, who had recently returned from a working visit to China, called on officers to pursue the possibility that multiple perpetrators may be responsible. He conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and described the discovery of the bodies as deeply concerning.
The planned meeting of senior SAPS leadership in Parktown is expected to shape the direction of the investigation as authorities work to determine whether the sixth discovery in Kwa-Thema forms part of a broader pattern.
