MacG and Sol Phenduka had plenty to say about Women for Change after the organisation publicly told Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma's March and March movement to stay in its lane. The hosts of Podcast and Chill used their Monday, 5 October 2026 episode to tear into what they described as the gatekeeping of gender-based violence advocacy in South Africa.

The conversation was sparked by a clip of Jacinta, the activist behind the anti-illegal immigration March and March movement, visibly frustrated after a confrontation with Women for Change during a Durban march. The protest had been called in response to a wave of GBV cases connected to incidents in Ekurhuleni. Jacinta had joined the demonstration to speak up for South African women, but Women for Change pushed back, questioning why March and March was wading into GBV territory.

What really set MacG and Sol off was a screenshot of a Women for Change tweet that read:

"March and March, please stop jumping on the GBV matter just for clout. Only if you care for all women in this country."

The hosts were visibly incredulous, with MacG questioning why any organisation would want to limit the voices amplifying anti-GBV messaging.

Sol raised the point that Women for Change is led by a German woman named Sabrina Walter, asking aloud how someone from outside South Africa could position herself as the gatekeeper of South African GBV advocacy when a local woman speaks out for local women. The hosts argued that the organisation's logic would, by the same measure, restrict Walter from weighing in on South African GBV matters at all.

MacG doubled down, reminding listeners that Women for Change had previously been accused of mismanaging funding intended for GBV support, a topic he said the show had covered the week before.

MacG and Sol Phenduka's history with Women for Change

Briefly News previously reported that Minnie Dlamini filed a R2.5 million Equality Court lawsuit against Podcast and Chill hosts MacGyver "MacG" Mukwevho and Sol Phenduka, with a significant portion earmarked for the advocacy group Women for Change.

This was after the Podcast and Chill founding host made some nasty comments about her while trying to make sense of why she had suddenly broken up with cosmetic surgeon Dr Brian Monaisa.
