'Generations' Actor Mfana Jones Hlophe's Cause of Death Announced

The family of legendary actor Mfana Jones Hlophe has announced his cause of death in a statement on Friday, 9 October 2026.

Hlophe is the latest Generations actor to pass away after fan-favourite thespian Seputla Sebogodi passed away in July 2026.

Hlophe's brother Bonani Mambi revealed to Daily Sun on Friday, 9 October 2026, that his brother died on Wednesday night, 7 October 2026, at Charlotte Mxeke Hospital in Johannesburg after a long battle with Type 1 diabetes.

"He had Type 1 diabetes. Sometimes he had episodes where he didn't realise he hadn't eaten, and the problems would start when he was unable to move his body," says the brother.

Mambi adds that his famous brother was alone on Wednesday, and when his partner came back from work, she found him in a bad condition. It is unclear if Hlophe passed away upon arrival at the hospital or on the way there.

SABC1 soapie Generations: The Legacy bid farewell to the actor on its Instagram account on Friday, 9 October 2026.

"On behalf of the producers, cast and crew, we are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mr Mfana Jones Hlophe. We would like to send our condolences to the family. We hold you close in our thoughts during this painful time. #Thumbeza, kamyeni ntombi zenda ngonyezi," said the show.
