In a video that has since left Mzansi in awe, @neo.mailol detailed how he prepared a hearty lamb shank meal with creamy samp all from the comfort of his student accommodation. The clip begins with him frying two pieces of lamb shank in a pot, ensuring they are seared to perfection. Once browned, he removed the meat and set it aside before moving on to create a flavour-packed base.
He sautéed sliced onions and fresh garlic, adding a blend of spices that appeared to be a mix of herbs, curry powder, and paprika. To bring it all together, he poured in tomato sauce, giving the dish a vibrant colour. The lamb shanks were then returned to the pot, allowing them to simmer and soak up the robust flavours.

Mzansi peeps couldn’t hide their amazement in the comments section. Many praised the young man’s cooking skills, saying he had set the bar high for res meals, while others jokingly admitted their own student dinners were nothing close to this level.
From instant noodles to canned food, student life is often associated with quick and basic meals. However, this video that was posted on 7 July 2025 proved that with a bit of creativity and effort, even a small res kitchen can produce restaurant-worthy plates.
