A foreign national running a fashion store in KwaZulu-Natal was forced to close his business after marchers arrived at his shop and demanded he shut it down. The video, shared on X by @jackson_rem on 21 August 2026, shows the tense moment inside and outside the store.
The footage captures a crowded shop stocked with clothing, hair wigs, hats, and bags. A group of individuals confronted the owner, some carrying crowbars, banging on the shutters of the store's distinctive purple door. One person in the group told him they would not steal anything and that he simply needed to close. The owner, who put on a face mask during the confrontation, appeared to nod in agreement before the shutters came down.
KZN marches target foreign-owned businesses
The incident is connected to a series of ongoing demonstrations in Durban, led by a civic pressure group known as the March and March movement, headed by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma. The group has been staging weekly Thursday marches through Durban's CBD, including along Dr A.B. Xuma Street, Bertha Mkhize Street, and the Dr Yusuf Dadoo precinct.
